Navratri Day 4: Worship of Maa Kushmanda and Its Astrological Significance :

The fourth day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Maa Kushmanda. Maa Kushmanda

form is divine and celestial, and her worship brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to

devotees. Understanding the ritual of worship on this day and the astrological significance

associated with Maa Kushmanda can be highly beneficial for our lives.

Divine Form of Maa Kushmanda :

Maa Kushmanda’s form is unique—she is depicted with eight arms, holding a lotus, a nectar

pot, a water pot, and various powerful weapons. Her smile is said to govern the entire

universe. The term ;Kushmanda; means ;pumpkin; or ;squash, as she is very fond of offerings made with pumpkins. According to belief, when there was no existence in the universe, it was her smile that led to the creation of the cosmos.

Mythological Story :

According to the Bhagavata Purana, when all the planets in space were engulfed in darkness,

the universe was illuminated by the gentle smile of Maa Kushmanda. Her worship removes

physical and mental ailments. Through the worship of Maa Kushmanda, devotees can attain

relief from their sufferings and achieve prosperity.

Ritual Procedure :

1. Morning Ritual and Bath: Wake up early on the fourth day of Navratri, take a bath, and

prepare for the worship.

2. Purification of Worship Place: Cleanse the worship area with holy water. Place a yellow

cloth on a wooden platform and install the idol of Maa Kushmanda.

3. Worship Materials: Offer yellow clothes, flowers, fruits, sweets, incense, lamps, offerings,

and rice grains.

4. Aarti and Offering: After offering all the worship materials, perform the aarti and offer the

bhog (food offerings).

5. Meditation and Recitation: After completing the worship, seek forgiveness, and meditate

while reciting the Durga Saptashati and Durga Chalisa.

Meditation Mantra: वन्दे वांछित कामर्थे चन्द्रार्घकृत शेखराम्। सिंहरूढ़ा अष्टभुजा कूष्माण्डा
